Where am I going?

Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness, Friday 4th February, 2022.

What time should I arrive?

There is a pre-ball drinks reception, sponsored by Diageo, at 6.45pm. The ball will start at 7.15pm.

What should I wear?

The Press Ball is a black-tie event, so formal dress is expected. 

Covid-19 restrictions

You ARE required to wear a face covering when entering the venue. You are also expected to wear a face covering  when going to the restrooms. You are NOT required to wear a face covering when at your table; when at the bar; or if you are dancing.


If receiving an award you MUST wear your mask but can remove it for the relevant photograph.

We advise all guests to take a lateral flow test on the day of the ball for extra reassurance. 

Should I eat before I come?

Not unless you’re really greedy. The event includes a three-course dinner.

Who is likely to win an award?

The Highlands and Islands Media Awards will be presented from 7.30pm. The shortlists are here 

Who sponsors HIPBMA?

Principal sponsor of the 2022 event is Diageo, with support from Kane Partnership, Statkraft, National Union of JournalistsHighlands and Islands Enterprise, Hub North Scotland, Highland Tourism and Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

If I don’t get an award, will I be able to win something else?

We are holding an auction, raffle and tombola to raise money for our four chosen charities

Will there be dancing?

A ceilidh will break out after the awards, with our resident band, The Black Isle Peas. Sponsored by Chivas Brothers. Last dance is 11.45pm and dancing stops at midnight. 

When will all this end?

The Ball closes at 1am on Saturday 5th February. Last orders at the bar will be 12.45am
