HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS MEDIA AWARDS BENEFIT FROM STATKRAFT WINDFALL

Europe’s leading generator of renewable energy is supporting local media in the Highlands by becoming a new sponsor of a major industry event.

Statkraft will be a leading sponsor of the 2020 Highlands and Islands Press Ball and Media Awards (HIPBMA), the only event that brings together media representatives spread across the huge geographical area.

The company owns and operates two wind farms in the Highlands and Islands – Berry Burn, south of Forres in Moray; and Baillie, west of Thurso in Caithness. The company officially opened its new Scottish HQ in Glasgow last month.

Statkraft joins the event’s principal sponsor, Diageo, and other supporters Chivas Brothers, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the National Union of Journalists, Hub North Scotland, Quatro PR, Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Inverness Chamber of Commerce in backing the staging of the ball and awards ceremony.

Richard Mardon, Head of Business and Project Development for Stakraft said: “By supporting this event we are recognising the work being done by journalists in the Highlands and Islands and the important role they play in their communities. We wish the best of luck to everyone who enters the awards this year.”

John Ross, chairman of the Highlands and Islands Press Ball, said: “We are extremely grateful to Statkraft for its generous sponsorship which will help us to both celebrate the best of Highlands and Islands journalism and to maintain and raise editorial standards in the industry.”
